More About Alex Vigil

Clinical Interests:

My clinical interests include working with adolescents and adults navigating substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and the impact of trauma. I am particularly interested in supporting individuals who are in early recovery, relapse prevention, or life-transition periods, including identity development, grief, relationship challenges, and rebuilding stability after crisis. I enjoy helping clients increase emotional regulation, self-worth, and coping skills, while fostering insight, autonomy, and long-term recovery. My interests also include working with LGBTQ+ individuals, clients involved in systems of care (child welfare, criminal-legal, medical), and individuals affected by intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers. I am especially interested in integrating psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, and person-centered interventions to support sustainable change, improve engagement, and promote holistic wellness.

Clinical Approach:

My clinical approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based, with an emphasis on creating a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. I integrate motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, and evidence-informed interventions to support clients in increasing insight, enhancing emotional regulation, and developing practical coping skills. I work with clients to identify goals, build on existing strengths, and address barriers related to substance use, mental health symptoms, and life stressors. My approach is also culturally responsive with particular attention to how trauma, systemic factors, and lived experience shape behavior and healing. I focus on promoting accountability while maintaining compassion, supporting recovery-oriented goals, and helping clients build sustainable skills for long-term stability and wellness.

Hobbies:

Outside of clinical work, I enjoy long-distance running and fitness, being a foodie, travel, and spending time outdoors. I value personal growth and reflection, and I enjoy reading, writing, and engaging in activities that support mindfulness and overall wellness. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family and being involved in community.
