More About Andrew VenHuizen
Clinical Interests:
Life can be overwhelming sometimes. Maybe anxiety keeps you stuck in cycles of overthinking, depression has made it difficult to enjoy the things you once loved, or you’re carrying experiences from your past that continue to affect your present. You may be struggling with relationships, navigating a major life transition, or trying to understand yourself better.
Whatever brings you to therapy, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, self-esteem, stress, and life-transitions. I also provide LGBTQ+ affirming care and am committed to creating an inclusive space where you feel accepted and free to be your authentic self.
Clinical Approach:
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never done it before or haven’t had the best experiences in the past. My goal is to create a space where you can be yourself and know that you won’t be judged.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine collaboration. Rather than tell you what you “should” do, I’ll work with you to better understand your experiences, explore patterns that keep you stuck, and build strategies to help you move forward.
My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered. I draw from ACT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and other evidence-based approaches. Everyone is different, so we will tailor our work together to meet your unique needs and goals. We will move at a pace that feels right for you.
Hobbies:
Outside of work, I enjoy getting lost in a good book, playing the piano, staying active, listening to podcasts, gaming, and unwinding with a movie.
