More About Brooke Boweter

Clinical Interests:

My clinical interests as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) are rooted in a deep curiosity about how the brain, body, and environment interact to shape substance use and recovery. I am particularly drawn to neuroscience and biomedical health, and I value integrating brain-based education into treatment to help clients understand the “why” behind their behaviors. I find that when individuals learn how substances impact brain function, stress response systems, and decision-making, it reduces shame and increases motivation for change. I am also interested in the role of nutrition, sleep, physical health, and medication in supporting long-term recovery and overall well-being.

I have a strong interest in working with individuals who are reentering society after incarceration. I am passionate about supporting this population as they navigate complex transitions, including rebuilding identity, establishing stability, addressing stigma, and developing healthy support systems. I strive to provide a structured yet compassionate environment that emphasizes skill-building, accountability, and empowerment, while also recognizing the systemic barriers many of these individuals face.

Additionally, I am committed to working with individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental health disorders alongside substance use. I value an integrated, co-occurring approach that addresses both mental health and substance use simultaneously, rather than treating them in isolation. I am particularly interested in trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, and helping clients build practical coping strategies to manage symptoms while maintaining recovery.

Overall, my clinical interests reflect a holistic, evidence-informed approach that blends science, compassion, and real-world application to support individuals with complex needs in building meaningful, sustainable change.

Clinical Approach:

My clinical approach as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) centers on creating a space where clients feel safe enough to be fully seen, heard, and understood. I prioritize open, honest communication and actively encourage vulnerability, recognizing that meaningful change happens when individuals can share their experiences without fear of judgment. I work to foster a strong sense of community, whether in individual or group settings, where clients feel connected, supported, and less alone in their journey.

I take a non-judgmental, person-centered approach, meeting clients where they are while gently challenging patterns that no longer serve them. I believe in balancing compassion with accountability, helping clients build insight while also developing practical tools for change. My style is intentionally engaging, hands-on, and at times unconventional—I incorporate interactive activities, experiential exercises, and even humor to make the therapeutic process more relatable and impactful.

Hobbies:

Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy spending time in ways that keep me grounded, curious, and connected to both nature and creativity. I’m drawn to outdoor activities like fishing, boating, and camping, where I can slow down, unplug, and appreciate the simplicity of being outside. I especially enjoy exploring new places in nature, including hiking and venturing into caves, which taps into my sense of adventure and appreciation for the unknown.

I also have a strong interest in exploring new cuisines—whether that’s trying different restaurants or experimenting with cooking at home. Food feels like a creative and cultural experience to me, and I enjoy learning about the stories and traditions behind different dishes.

Creativity and growth are important parts of my life as well. I enjoy engaging in art in various forms, as it provides both a creative outlet and a way to decompress. I’m also someone who genuinely enjoys learning—whether it’s through reading, hands-on experiences, or exploring new topics that expand my perspective.

Overall, my hobbies reflect a balance of adventure, creativity, and continuous learning, all of which help me stay energized and present both personally and professionally.
