More About Deena Wigton

Clinical Interests:

Primarily, I have worked with children, adolescents and their families, and I am interested in working with couples and adults as well. I have experience of working with clients who are struggling with their mental health, trauma, family relationships and well-being. I will see clients who may have a range of concerns, and who may or may not have a formal diagnosis. I have knowledge and/or experience in diagnosing and assessing early childhood through adulthood. I have knowledge and/or experience with anxiety disorders, depression, trauma and stress related disorders, autism, ADHD and other concerns.

Clinical Approach:

I strive to create a safe and accepting environment where you feel that you can be open and your most authentic self. I come from a foundation that is strengths-based, and person-centered approach, as well as developmentally aware. Taking a step forward to seek therapy, or returning for a refresher can be a moment of embracing the unknown, even if you sought counseling before. Searching for and putting your trust in a provider can be daunting, as well as creating a feeling of vulnerability, my hope is to give you an environment that provides a safe space to work through those difficult emotions while feeling radical acceptance. I like to incorporate in our time together, skills and techniques that bring a sense of calm and self-awareness that can help you stay in the moment. With children I incorporate play based approaches, as this is their main form of communication. The other therapeutic approaches I like to use are psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, developmental repair, Child Parent Psychotherapy, attachment based , theraplay, and others as appropriate. More importantly, I am here for you, and we will work together with the best approaches that aligns with who you are.

Hobbies:

I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, laughing with friends, and getting out in the sun whenever possible. I love to paint, decorate and garden, try new things and continuously learn from everyone and everything around me.
