More About Jodin Wyckoff

Clinical Interests:

I am interested in play therapy and working with children. I really enjoy helping them through the learning and discovery process of their emotions and helping them learn to regulate them, and I also enjoy watching children express themselves in creative ways. I am also interested in working with young adults and college-age clients as they navigate through the many life transitions that come up during this time. In addition, I would love to gain experience in a school-based setting to better understand how counseling services are intermingled with academic environments. Overall, I am interested in supporting clients through different developmental stages while also exploring a variety of therapeutic approaches that best fit their needs.

Clinical Approach:

As an incoming intern my approach to working with children of all ages begins with establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Focusing on person-centered principles and using strategies such as play, creativity, and age-appropriate CBT techniques to help children express themselves and their emotions while also learning grounding and coping skills. Since I am still in the developmental stages of my own counseling techniques, I see my approach as flexible and evolving. I look forward to mentorship and feedback from my supervisors to refine my skills and adapt to each child’s unique needs.

Hobbies:

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors, which allows me to stay active and engaged. I like reading, watching documentaries, and doing research, which helps me grow my perspective and exposes me to new ideas. Volunteering is another important part of my life, it feels rewarding to give back to the community and connect with other people in meaningful ways. I also like doing crafty activities and spending time with friends and family.
