More About Madeleine Ipsen

Clinical Interests:

I primarily work with trauma with a particular clinical interest in working with Complex PTSD. A large part of this work includes identifying how past traumatic events have changed a person’s core beliefs and how we can use therapy to find meaning and change the inner monologue to something more adaptive to how things have changed in life. I also work with depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I primarily work with adolescents and adults, but I’m open to working with children as well.

Clinical Approach:

In general, I take a humanistic, existential approach to therapy. I believe that the client is the expert of their experience and that my responsibility is to provide support, build skills, and assist in processing through one’s experiences. I adapt my approach to the needs of the client; for example, if a client is interested in using worksheets or homework, I am happy to provide those in addition to talk therapy.
I am trained in EMDR and Brainspotting; because of that, somatic therapy is a large part of my practice. Sometimes words alone aren’t enough when it comes to processing trauma, and it’s important to work with how the body holds onto traumatic experiences. We will always work to develop a sense of safety in the body before processing any past traumatic experiences.

Hobbies:

I enjoy playing music as well as attending concerts. I play guitar and piano and I am a classically trained singer. I love traveling. I have previously lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Vienna, Austria, and enjoy going back to visit my friends and loved ones. My usual weekend activities generally include reading, playing cozy games, cooking, painting, and spending time with my wonderful cat, Sonny.
