More About Michaela Oesterlin
Clinical Interests:
I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and a pre-licensed LPCC with a strong commitment to supporting individuals facing addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges. My clinical interests include substance use disorders, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, and working with individuals experiencing psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. I am especially passionate about working with this population and value building trusting, collaborative relationships that support stability, insight, and quality of life.
I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, build resilience, and pursue healing in a way that aligns with their individual goals.
Clinical Approach:
My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and person-centered, with an emphasis on creating a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space. I work collaboratively with clients, meeting them where they are and tailoring treatment to their individual needs and goals. I integrate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to support insight, emotional regulation, and meaningful change. I also recognize the importance of pacing, trust, and autonomy in the therapeutic process, especially when working with trauma, substance use, ADHD, and psychotic disorders. My goal is to help clients build practical skills, strengthen self-understanding, and move toward greater stability and well-being.
Hobbies:
Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m a mom, a creative spirit, and someone who enjoys the simple joys of life. I share my home with my family and two cats, and I love spending time gardening, reading, making art, and connecting with friends. I also enjoy exploring new creative projects and occasionally trying out new recipes in the kitchen. These activities help me stay grounded, inspired, and connected to the people and world around me.
