More About Payton Pool
Clinical Interests:
My primary clinical interest is acute and complex trauma and PTSD. I believe that trauma is at the root of many secondary effects individuals face including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, difficulty building and sustaining relationships, low self esteem, poor body image, communication difficulties, aggression, anger, and self harm.
Clinical Approach:
My primary method involves a combination of techniques from EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness, body centered psychotherapies, and somatic experiencing. In session, we will practice listening to our body and the feelings and sensations present within us. Rather than ignore or distract yourself from your feelings and memories, I will invite you to acknowledge and ultimately sit with them – both the positive and the uncomfortable. It is in this space that we can elicit true healing and reach a consistent state of calm, peace, and comfort. Sessions with me are laid back, person centered, strength based and take a person in environment perspective. This means that they are tailored to meet you where you are at, take into consideration the impact of various systems on your emotional well-being, and emphasize and build upon the strengths you already possess.
Hobbies:
I enjoy swimming, hiking or just being outside, going to sporting events (especially baseball and basketball games – Go Hawks!), and spending time with my family and two dogs.
