More About Soren Ruppelius

Clinical Interests:

I provide therapy primarily to all individuals 18 and older. I have experience working and training in behavioral health settings in VA and military hospitals, as well as the National Sexual Assault Hotline. Through my work and education, I have experience utilizing trauma-informed approaches, modalities such as CBT and DBT, and psychodynamic theory. I have enjoyed supporting clients through grief and loss, life transitions, coping with chronic illness, anger, PTSD, and more. I especially have a passion for working with LGBTQ individuals, and I am able to provide gender affirming care for those pursuing medical transition. Additionally, I love working with military and veteran populations. I plan to continue my education and become able to offer additional specific modalities in the future.

Clinical Approach:

My clinical approach is to utilize the therapeutic power of the human relationship to help clients achieve their goals, as well as create the kind of life that they envision for themselves. I believe strongly that my clients are the experts in their own lives, and that counseling can be an important tool in helping clients feel empowered. I like to utilize psychodynamic concepts in examining the way that our pasts inform our present, and I am a fan of celebrating every small step along the way toward growth and healing. While I may have many tools and strategies that I may discuss with my clients, I am most interested in finding what feels best for each individual. I am happy to provide a more structured and skills-based therapeutic setting, or I am just as happy to have a more laidback approach. The most important thing is that each client feels that they are receiving the help and support that they desire.

Hobbies:

I can often be found hiking in the woods, foraging and mushroom hunting, as well as birding. I also love dance, sewing, hanging out with my two cats, and playing video games.
