Grounding and Mental Health Resources

Simple Tools to Help You Feel More Present, Calm and Supported

Stress, anxiety or difficult emotions can make it hard to feel grounded or connected to the present. Grounding techniques are simple strategies designed to help reconnect your mind and body to what is happening in the moment. They can be especially helpful during times of stress, panic, or racing thoughts.

Use this page and these resources to pause, reset and explore practical mental health tools you can return to whenever you need support.

5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Exercise

Use this exercise to help center yourself in the moment by focusing on the world around you rather than on your overwhelmed or racing thoughts. By engaging your senses, you can distract your mind and center yourself in the present.

  • What are 5 things you can see?
  • What are 4 things you can touch?
  • What are 3 things you can hear?
  • What are 2 things you can smell?
  • What is 1 thing you can taste?

Mindful Movement Walk

A mindful movement walk combines gentle movement with mindfulness practices to help you reconnect with your body, your surroundings, and the present moment. Rather than walking with a destination in mind, the goal is to slow down and intentionally notice what is around you. Use this guided audio to help you slow down, both physically and mentally, during a short walk.
