More About Andrea Ortega
Clinical Interests:
I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds and identities, including immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals with substance use challenges. I am here to support you in navigating life’s difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and other concerns.
I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler Graduate School and a bachelor’s degree in Educational Psychology, earned in Ecuador. My professional experience includes working in Ecuador as a school counselor and volunteering as a teacher in a men’s correctional facility. In Minnesota, I have worked as a mental health therapist intern in a substance use clinic and volunteered as a teacher assistant in three schools. I was born in Ecuador and am now an American citizen. I provide therapy in both English and Spanish.
Clinical Approach:
Sometimes, life can feel overwhelming, and you may find yourself feeling stuck or discouraged. Whatever your needs are, as a mental health therapist, I am here to walk with you on your journey of personal growth and healing. Together, we can uncover your strengths, work toward your goals, and enhance your overall well-being. I believe that change is possible—everyone has inner strengths and the capacity to develop new skills throughout life.
My counseling approach is client-centered, grounded in building trusting and respectful relationships. Compassion, encouragement, cultural sensitivity, a non-judgmental attitude, and advocacy are the pillars of my practice. I create a safe and welcoming space where clients can freely express themselves. I integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, narrative therapy, and mindfulness. I also incorporate creative modalities, such as art therapy and play therapy for children, to help clients express and regulate their emotions.
Hobbies:
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, gardening, and sewing.
