Clinical Approach:
My clinical approach is rooted in a psychodynamic framework, while integrating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and art therapy to support both insight and practical change. I’m interested in getting to the root of behaviors and thought patterns, as well as how these impact self-esteem. My approach emphasizes collaboration with clients to explore underlying patterns, unconscious processes, and relational dynamics that may be influencing current thoughts, emotions and behaviors. I also incorporate CBT techniques to help identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns and to help clients build effective coping strategies. I provide culturally responsive, identity-affirming care, and as a BIPOC clinician, I am especially attentive to the ways culture, identity and systemic factors shape lived experience and mental health.
Creativity is so important to me, and I place an emphasis on creative expression through art therapy as a means of accessing experiences that may be difficult to articulate verbally, supporting emotional processing, healing and self-discovery. A lot of people hear art therapy and feel pressure to be skilled in art. However, it’s not about the appearance of the finished product. It truly is about the magic of the creative process, not perfection! There’s so much to be said about having the courage to be imperfect.
