More About Katie Baker

Clinical Interests:

Before starting my counseling path, I was a PCA which gave me my love for helping people. I have many interests in this field, and one is to work with children and individuals with disabilities. I work with both children and adults to help them navigate life and their mental health struggles with anxiety, depression, development, grief, and life in general. I also have a strong interest in ADHD as someone who learned about having ADHD in my adulthood it has revealed many challenges that I had faced early on and I would love to help others who have recently discovered this diagnosis and find ways to work with it and use it to your advantage.

Clinical Approach:

I am an avid listener and work hard to create a safe and comfortable environment for my patients. I like to make sure clients feel like they can always openly express themselves and also be open to be creative. I love to keep games and art supplies in my room to interact with clients and get them more comfortable while they open up so we can have a good and easy flowing conversation and be able to get to work on things.

While online, I like to be able to let people be open and honest and comfortable in the space they are at. I allow for them to move around or play with fidgets if needed and try to keep things on track.

I commonly use CBT techniques as well as some DBT techniques to help my clients cope and understand their mental health. I hope to soon include some play therapy and sand tray therapy as I learn more going forward.

Hobbies:

My hobbies include gaming especially the cozy games, spending time with my cat Suki and when I go to my parents spending the time with the dogs, cat, horse, bunny, and alpacas that are currently there. Growing up on a hobby farm has made me have a love of animals so I love to be around them and possibly include a therapy dog in my services one day. I also enjoy playing board and card games, sewing, cross stitch, coloring, baking, and spending time with family and friends. I always love a good adventure and getting to see the beauty of nature.
