More About Kay Lisick
Clinical Interests:
I work with children, adults, couples, and families, and am passionate about supporting clients through challenges related to trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, and life transitions. My work is guided by a trauma-sensitive lens, with a strong focus on trauma recovery using EMDR and ART to promote healing and resilience.
I enjoy helping clients build coping skills, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence through approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing. I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD, autism, IDD, SPMI, addictions/substance use, and providing affirming care for LGBTQ+ clients.
I also support individuals navigating grief, identity development, relationships, and chronic illness, tailoring interventions to meet each client’s unique needs. I often incorporate play therapy in my work; both with children and adults!
My clinical interests continue to evolve through ongoing learning, collaboration, and a deep respect for the diverse stories and strengths each client brings to the therapeutic space.
Clinical Approach:
My therapeutic approach is integrative and client-centered, drawing from a range of evidence-based modalities to meet each client’s unique needs. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, while incorporating Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support emotional regulation, mindfulness, and values-based living. I also integrate psychodynamic education to foster insight and self-reflection, all within a trauma-informed framework that prioritizes safety, empowerment, and sensitivity to trauma’s impact.
Depending on the client, I may use Motivational Interviewing, person-centered techniques, and play therapy to support emotional expression and healing. For trauma processing, I am trained in EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to help clients reprocess traumatic memories in a safe and structured way.
I work with children, adults, couples, and families, tailoring my approach to support each client’s developmental stage, relational dynamics, and therapeutic goals. Above all, I strive to create a collaborative, compassionate, and empowering space where clients feel heard, supported, and capable of meaningful change.
Hobbies:
Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy a variety of creative and restorative activities that help me stay grounded and inspired. I have a deep love for music, art, reading, and photography, and I’m always exploring gadgets and toys that spark curiosity, creativity and fun. I’m passionate about dog rescue, especially with pointer breed dogs, and find great joy in advocating for animal welfare. Spending time on the river and at my boathouse is one of my favorite ways to relax and connect with nature, family, and friends. I also love traveling to discover new places, cultures, and perspectives.
In addition, I’m deeply committed to policy and advocacy work in mental health, education, and social justice, which guides both my personal values and professional practice. These passions fuel my dedication to creating inclusive, empowering spaces for healing and growth.
