More About Kevin Hooker

Clinical Interests:

My main clinical interest revolves mainly around sleep. I enjoy working with those who are having difficulty sleeping and may need some help concerning healthy sleep habits and learning how sleep ties into their mental health. As such, I provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to help those struggling with insomnia, insufficient sleep syndrome, and nightmares. After I complete my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, I hope to work as a sleep psychologist! Sleep is the foundation of good health overall and you would be surprised how little people know and what small things people typically do that harm their sleep! Outside of sleep, I enjoy working with couples and those who struggle with anxiety, depression, and pornography/sex addiction.

Clinical Approach:

My approach is very client-centered. I believe that you as the client know yourself best and as a therapist, it’s best if I walk alongside you during your journey to better mental health instead of driving the ship. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in conjunction with Solution Focused Therapy, but I believe in meeting you where you’re at during sessions. I tend to incorporate skills work as well, but also why these skills can work in your brain and body. I think it is important to understand the how and why because the skills you learn are easier to implement outside of therapy. Therapy is all about the work you do outside of the session and I am here to equip you as best I can to deal with what ails you at every step of your life. Lets find the solution together!

Hobbies:

Lately, my hobbies have been video games, chess, and TTRPGs like Daggerheart and D&D. I enjoy the worldbuilding and creative aspect of TTRPGs, while also tapping into my love of strategy. I love listening to music of all different genres, podcasts, and catching up on sleep science literature! My wife and I just welcomed our first little one into the world, so that has been keeping me quite busy!
