More About Abby Sohn
Clinical Interests:
I work with children from early childhood through school-aged who are experiencing emotional regulation challenges, trauma/stressors, behavioral concerns, anxiety, or difficulty with relationships in their lives. I have worked with children in various settings such as outpatient mental health clinics, early childhood environments, and schools; including experience supporting students receiving special education services and collaborating with school teams. I also have experience providing support and psychoeducation to caregivers around attachment, parenting challenges, and family stressors.
Clinical Approach:
My clinical approach is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in play-based techniques that help children express themselves in a developmentally appropriate, safe manner. I draw from different strategies to work with clients like cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and attachment-focused practices to best support each child’s unique needs and circumstances. I like to have a systems approach and try my best to partner closely with the important people in a child’s life like their caregivers and/or school teams to ensure consistency and to build skills in all environments. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where children feel understood and like they can express themselves freely, build emotional awareness, and develop confidence in navigating their world!
Hobbies:
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my pets, listening to music or podcasts, reading, doing puzzles, playing video games, and I am newly trying to learn how to embroider. I also like to watch sports and cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones!
