More About Andrea Wood
Clinical Interests:
I have a passion for helping children, teens, and young adults learn how to express and manage their emotions in healthier ways. I work with a variety of concerns ranging from young children with big emotions to high achieving teenagers who experience anxiety about perfectionism and performance. I strive to provide personalized and individualized care to my clients.
Additionally, I enjoy working with adults in all stages of life. When working with adults, I may be a good fit if you have an interest in processing past traumas, understanding coping patterns and attachment patterns, and building new coping skills to tackle life’s challenges.
Clinical Approach:
I operate from the perspective that the client is the expert in their life; I am here to serve as their guide, providing them with support and teaching new ways to build capacity for life’s challenges. I have completed all levels of the Somatic Experiencing Professional program and incorporate these principles into the work that I do with clients.
When working with youth, I provide support to my clients and their parents using a family systems approach and an attachment focused lens. I utilize client centered play therapy techniques, teach mindfulness and meditation, and use other expressive therapies to encourage client growth, empowerment, and stability.
Hobbies:
During my free time, I enjoy walking or riding my bike in my neighborhood, working on my pollinator garden, and going to the Missouri Botanical Garden for inspiration. I am a lover of coffee and tea. I enjoy visiting local coffee and tea shops all around St. Louis. Taking yoga, Pilates, and tap dance classes are my favorite ways to take care of myself and relive stress.
