More About Grace Johnson
Clinical Interests:
I provide therapy to those 6 years and older, and work especially well with ages 12-35. My clinical interests include anxiety, depression, stress management, life transitions, gender and sexuality, body image, relationship challenges, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. In additional to outpatient therapy I am currently providing individual and group therapy for adults with major depression in Sagent’s intensive outpatient program, and have 3 years of clinical experience providing therapy to young adults with psychosis in first episode and intensive outpatient programs. Prior to Sagent I worked with children and parents impacted by the family court and child welfare systems, including adoption, divorce, and foster care providing therapeutic family visitations.
Clinical Approach:
I find great joy in honoring the full spectrum of human experience and am there to hold sadness, worry and anger in addition to the wins, celebrations, and laughter with you. My theoretical orientation is primarily humanistic complemented by psychoanalytic processing. For increasing effective coping skills I pull from ACT, CBT, and DBT. Additional theoretical approaches I have experience with include narrative therapy, interpersonal processing therapy, and attachment theory. My goal is to facilitate growth through compassion, reflection, nurture, skills-building, and openness; nothing is off limits to explore together and I welcome your input and knowledge. As a clinical social worker I also honor the importance of social justice and the many ways in which systems and environment play a role in mental health. I pride myself in the feedback from clients that my approach to therapy is one that balances education, warmth, creativity, humor, and empathy.
Hobbies:
Outside of work I enjoy reading light-hearted novels, spending quality time with my husband, singing in the kitchen while cooking dinner, lifting weights, and hiking in Minnesota’s beautiful state parks.
