More About Jason Schaal

Clinical Interests:

My clinical interests include working with older adolescents and adults (ages 16 and up) experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, and life transitions. I take a cognitive behavioral approach to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, automatic negative thoughts, and core beliefs that contribute to emotional distress and behavioral patterns. I enjoy collaborating with clients to build practical coping skills, emotional regulation strategies, and healthier behavioral responses that support meaningful change. I also have experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns and integrate CBT within a person-centered, strengths-based framework that honors each client’s lived experience and goals.

Clinical Approach:

My clinical approach is collaborative, person-centered, and grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences while also being gently challenged to promote growth and change. Using CBT-based interventions, I help clients increase awareness of thought patterns, develop insight into how these patterns influence emotions and behaviors, and practice skills that support emotional regulation and healthier coping. I believe therapy is most effective when it is practical, relational, and tailored to each individual’s strengths, values, and goals.

Hobbies:

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, being outdoors, and finding ways to recharge and stay grounded. During football season, you’ll likely find me watching games and keeping up with the NFL, along with following other sports throughout the year. I also enjoy movies—especially comedies and sci-fi—sitting around a fire, and appreciating good conversation and humor. Like most people, I value balance and downtime, because even therapists benefit from unplugging and enjoying the moment.
