More About Lizzie Slater

Clinical Interests:

I am interested in working with couples and children over the age of 8 at this time. As a former first grade teacher and current special education teacher, I am patient, curious, and like to insert humor into my therapy sessions! I am open to working with anyone who is ready to make a change in their life. I have worked with clients without a formal diagnosis, as well as those with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, PTSD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am currently completing the Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training Level 1, as I am seeking to gain expertise in working with couples struggling with infidelity and communication challenges.

Clinical Approach:

I believe that every person is capable of change, and I love Irvin Yalom’s theory of staying in the “here and now”.  I am a 200 RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher), and I strive to take a mindfulness approach in my sessions. I believe that seeing people not only as individuals but as a member of their community/communities can help them to achieve deeper and longer-lasting change. Therapy should be tailored to individuals and where they are any given day, and I love to meet people where they are at.
I am an encouraging person, and I love to help people work towards their personal goals. I love to see clients regain their sense of self, adjust to changes, and find the social support they require to thrive.

Hobbies:

When I am not working, I love to hang out with my friends and family, and my 10-year old cat! I love to travel internationally, and I book trips spontaneously and as often as I can.  I am passionate about my yoga practice and the ways it has helped to transform my personal life. I have been an elementary school teacher for the past 13 years, and I love learning and being silly in my daily life. I am a joyful and bubbly person, and I can’t wait to share more of that in my therapy practice.
