More About Matthew Rask

Clinical Interests:

I enjoy working with individuals and couples 16 and up in therapy across many different periods of life, backgrounds and personal difficulties. I currently and have previously worked with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, low self-esteem/sense of self, shame and guilt, lifestyle challenges, family/relationship issues, grief, trauma, phase of life/transition issues and a range of couples-related difficulties, amongst many other areas. I am always wanting to continue my growth as a therapist in all areas to ensure I can assist and provide a quality level of care to as many people as possible.

Clinical Approach:

I like to utilize an integrated approach by encompassing a number of therapeutic modalities, interventions and theory including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, mindfulness and person-centered techniques, amongst others. I heavily promote and focus on building rapport, comfortability, and trust with my clients, as this is essential for progress in mental health therapy. Providing therapy-related work to focus on outside of sessions is common in my therapy. This is to ensure goals are progressing while building consistency and confidence in the strategies so they can be utilized when needed. I attempt to help clients feel more empowered, educated, and supported to take steps towards improving desired areas of their life. As a therapist, I enjoy getting to know my clients from all different walks of life and having the opportunity to help.

Hobbies:

I have two kiddos that are a joy to have (4, 1). I enjoy traveling, music, cooking, spending time with my family, friends, and wife, going out to eat, attending events/concerts/games, fishing, experiencing new things, and being outdoors and active. A major part of my personality is the love for sports. Summer is my favorite season, and I look forward to it every year.
