What is DBT and who is it for?

DBT is an evidence-based treatment that helps participants manage emotions, improve relationships, and tolerate stress. Our program supports adults and minors (with a parent or guardian), especially those who have not found success with traditional psychotherapy, day treatment, or hospitalization.

Providing the Gold Standard in DBT Care

When you refer a patient for Dialectical Behavior Therapy, you need to know they are receiving more than just “skills training.” You are looking for a program with the depth and clinical rigor to handle complex cases, specifically one that adheres strictly to the evidence-based model developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan.

At Sagent Behavioral Health, DBT isn’t an add-on; it’s our core specialty. We bring three decades of experience and national certification to Wisconsin, ensuring your patients are supported by a full consultation team, not a solo practitioner.

Why Providers Trust Sagent:

  • Adherent Care: We follow the complete model developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan.
  • Specialized Focus: DBT is a core specialty for us, not a side service.
  • Proven Expertise: Decades of experience, now expanded into Wisconsin.
  • Collaborative Support: Your patients are backed by a full, supervised consultation team.

About Our Wisconsin DBT Program

Our Wisconsin DBT program holds national certification from the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, meaning independent experts have observed, reviewed, and validated our practices. We’ve also been certified by the Department of Human Services as an adherent, standard DBT program.

When you refer a patient to Sagent, you’re connecting them with clinicians who are trained, supervised, and supported within a full DBT consultation team—not a solo practitioner borrowing a few techniques.

Adolescent and Family DBT Program

A 24-week program in which both the adolescent and their parent or caregiver participate. Each person is paired with their own individual therapist for the duration of the program, reinforcing skills at home and in session.

Is DBT Right for Your Patient?

DBT was originally developed for borderline personality disorder, but decades of clinical research have demonstrated its effectiveness across a wide range of presentations. Consider a referral for patients experiencing:

  Borderline personality disorder

  Chronic suicidal ideation

  Self-harm behaviors

  Treatment-resistant depression

  Ongoing behavioral issues

  Emotional dysregulation and anger

  Eating disorders

  Substance use and addiction

  Unresolved trauma

  Communication issues

If your patient has not responded to traditional psychotherapy, or if their emotions and behaviors are severely impacting their quality of life, DBT may be the structured, skills-based approach they need.
